*** THIS ITEM IS NOT A FULL SCALE TOY SWORD OR REPLICA! ***
Hand crafted with pride in the USA!
This Tolkien inspired hair stick is based on 'Anduril', the sword carried by Aragorn. (not to be confused with the sword carried by Strider... for those who know or care about such things) I cut it out on a scroll saw from solid walnut and hand sanded. The black accents were added with a wood burner. Next I ebonized the hair stick. Ebonizing, for those unfamiliar, is a means of chemically darkening wood - a process not unlike staining, except that the chemical in this case is vinegar and iron oxide (rust) which darkens the wood through a natural, organic process. In case you were wondering. I then applied Danish oil and paste wax for a smooth, natural finish that will insert with ease into any hair.
The total length of this hair stick is approx. 8", with the working portion being approx. 6". It is 1 1/2" wide at the top and approx. 9 mm thick.
Want it customized? If you are interested in this or any of my other hair sticks but might like a different wood or length than that shown, please let me know - I am happy to custom make any hair stick any way you'd like it. I try to keep my shop stocked with the following woods, and will not charge extra for their use: Oak, Maple, Cherry, Ash, Walnut and Mahogany. In addition, I have a limited supply of the following exotic hardwoods, or may be able to get them for an added fee: purpleheart, yellowheart, bocote, mora, padauk and leopardwood. Other woods may be available upon request. Please do not hesitate to ask! Feel free to share your thoughts or wishes with me; I'll work with you to make it happen..
Please be aware that the images shown are stock photos. As each hair stick is individually hand crafted there may be subtle differences between the one shown and the one you receive. Be assured that yours will be every bit as beautiful.
Also be aware that the effects of ebonizing can vary, with some pieces turning out darker than others. It has to do with wood grain, density and the amount of tannin in the wood - all of which can vary even within the same board. I have included pictures of more than one stick in an attempt to help illustrate this point. :)
